Blue Zone Secrets: Barra Honda Caves & Nicoya Peninsula Flavors

Uncover one of Guanacaste’s best-kept treasures with a visit to Barra Honda National Park, home to a fascinating limestone cave system featuring spectacular stalactite and stalagmite formations, created by tectonic movements thousands of years ago.

After exploring the caves, we’ll head to the Nicoya Peninsula, internationally recognized as one of the world’s five Blue Zones, where people live longer, healthier lives. Here, you’ll enjoy a traditional lunch made from nixtamalized corn, with recipes passed down for generations: corn rice, achiote chicken, handmade tortillas, rosquillas, and empanadas.

To end the day, you’ll join a hands-on workshop with a young local entrepreneur who creates unique corn-based snacks from scratch, baked in a traditional wood-fired clay oven. A journey into the heart of Guanacaste culture and cuisine.
